South Shore-St. Margaret's

CONSERVATIVE ASSOCIATION

South Shore - St Margaret's borders ridings of Halifax, Halifax West, Kings-Hants, West Nova, and follows the Atlantic coastline from Halifax to border of Yarmouth county. Includes part of Halifax county, and all of Lunenburg, Queens and Shelburne counties, encompassing 9,855 sq km.

Diverse culture of residents, musicians and artists living in quaint fishing villages and vibrant towns, steeped in a rich history dating from 1632, when Fort Ste. Marie de Grace in LaHave was the first capital of all of New France.

South Shore - St. Margaret's has almost 100,000 full time residents. Additionally, many upper Canadians, Americans and Europeans own properties throughout the riding, adding to the diversity of the rural communities.

Excellent ocean sailing, dozens of beautiful sandy beaches and hundreds of lakes a short drive from most communities makes SSSM a wonderful place to live and work.

This Rural riding is renowned for it’s lobster (Barrington is known as the lobster capital of Canada), and scallop fishing industries, as well as Christmas trees (Lunenburg County is the Balsam Fir Christmas Tree capital of the world).

Peggy’s Cove, Chester, Tancook Island, Mahone Bay, Oak Island (famous for it’s hidden treasure), Lunenburg (a World Heritage site and home to the famous Bluenose Sailing Schooner), LaHave Islands, Liverpool (home of the Privateers), Shelburne, Clark’s Harbour, and Lockeport are some of the most popular coastal tourist destinations.

Bridgewater is the shopping hub of the South Shore, and along with New Ross, New Germany, and Caledonia are the larger non-coastal communities.
